An Evening with Aggers

Due to the outbreak of Covid-19 and in line with government advice we are sorry to have to announce we are postponing the April/May shows until later this year. We will make an announcement in due course and look forward to seeing you at one of our shows very soon.

Since the home Ashes series in 2013, the Evenings with Aggers shows have been delighting audiences and selling out theatres all over England.

Jonathan Agnew learnt his craft under the tutelage of Brian Johnston, emerging from the notoriety of the gloriously funny 'leg over’ incident (yes, you will hear that tonight!) to become BBC Radio’s voice of cricket.

In his unparalleled A View From The Boundary sessions, he has interviewed folk from all walks of life, including rock stars, film legends, writers, comedians, two prime ministers and a boy wizard! His consummate skills on air have proved electric on stage as he has taken on his prickly commentating partner Geoffrey Boycott, spin legend Graeme Swann, Indian’s ‘Little Master’ Sunil Gavaskar, bad boy of English cricket Phil Tufnell and the gloriously eccentric David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd.

Supporting the PCA Benevolent Fund, join Aggers in his solo show as he takes us on a trip down memory lane, recounting tales from an entertaining career on the field and in the box, with film footage, audio clips and photographs on our big screen, including England’s wonderful World Cup victory in the most breathtaking match of all time, Aggers' audio innuendos, from the infamous ‘leg over’ with Johnners to stitching up Michael Vaughan over KP replacing a bat rubber and, of course, plenty of Boycott-baiting wind ups!

Evenings With Aggers are always funny, charming and moving. They capture the essence of TMS which has been a national institution for the past 60 years. As Aggers points out, it is not just cricket commentary, but friendly company for people at home, in the car, on the beach and even tucked up in bed!

An Evening With Aggers is a special evening for cricket fans and non-lovers of the game alike and there will be an opportunity for the audience to tweet Aggers with their own questions - and even meet Tino the dog!

What the press are saying

“The warmth of Agnew’s delivery came over the most, something which would charm even non-sports fans.”
Pete Woodhouse Lynn News, Hunstanton

“Aggers has established himself as one of cricket’s finest summarisers and he’s taken his tales from the boundaries on to the touring circuit with aplomb.”
John Carter Swindon Advertiser

"It began before Aggers even appeared on stage with one of the funniest Test Match Special moments – the famous 1991 ‘leg over’ sequence in which Brian Johnston collapses into laughter as he’s trying to summarise a day’s play. And that set a high standard as it was the schoolboy humour, the pranks and the japes that proved to be the evening’s highlights.”
Cliff Moore Bournemouth Echo

“Commanding the Spa Centre stage with the much-practised presence of a man of 6ft 4, we were treated to one anecdote after another, delivered with wit, timing, that irrepressible sense of mischief and seemingly effortless style.”
Chris Arnot Elementary What’s On Royal Leamington Spa

"Rather like the Test Match Special programme he has been part of for more than a quarter of a century, it's about a lot more than just cricket. It's about company, indeed, about life itself.”
Allister Webb Spalding Guardian
