Michael Brandon - Off Ramps

[Off-ramp (n): North American - a one-way road leading off a main highway.]

On his journey from Brooklyn to Britain - via Hollywood - Michael Brandon has taken many off-ramps along the way. In this brilliant, funny and engaging show, he tells how he gave himself just two years to star in a Hollywood movie. After fifty years in the biz, he finally lifts the lid on a host of showbiz personalities from De Niro to Pacino, Tony Curtis to Kim Novak and his ex-wife, the Bionic Woman!

Following success on Broadway and a long film career in Los Angeles, Michael crossed the pond and shot to fame in the UK in the 80s iconic series Dempsey and Makepeace. In 2004, he was nominated for an Olivier Award as best actor for his title role
performance in Jerry Springer: The Opera at the National Theatre. His many other UK theatre credits include Singing In The Rain, Wet Weather Cover, On The Waterfront and A View From the Bridge. On screen, he appeared in Captain America: The First Avenger, Dr. Who, The Catherine Tate Show, Tracey (Ullman) Breaks The News and four seasons as Elliot Salad in the hit comedy Episodes alongside Matt LeBlanc. Michael will soon be seen in Trust, produced and directed by Danny Boyle.

Michael Brandon - Off Ramps was a hit at the 2017 Edinburgh Festival. With original footage and rare photographs, this freeway - with many off-ramps - is an hilarious evening of eye-widening Hollywood truths!

FRINGE REVIEW

Recommended Show

It’s high quality auto-biographical story stand-up, delivered with refreshing directness. It hits the ground running from the start and gives revealing insight into a life and into the world of movies and stardom. Recommended.

THE TELEGRAPH

His is a rattling, often romance-steeped yarn, and his story of a drama-school audition nightmare is probably one of the funniest in the business. If you didn’t know or much care for this Anglophile American (who married his Makepeace, Glynis Barber, in 1989) at the start, by the end of his charm offensive you sure will.
